Paddock Pass- Remembering Envoi Allen
One of our sports brightest lights
There are certain horses whose records tell only part of the story. Their wins can be counted, their prize money tallied, their Grade 1 victories listed in black and white. But the true measure of them lives elsewhere in the feeling they created when they walked into the paddock, the expectation they carried every time they ran, and the way people within the sport spoke about them.
Envoi Allen was one of those horses.
His passing has prompted the kind of reflection reserved for the rare few who leave a genuine imprint on National Hunt racing. He was not simply a very good racehorse. For a time, he was the horse everyone in the sport was talking about the unbeaten star who seemed capable of dominating whatever division he eventually settled in.
And yet, like many great National Hunt stories, his career never followed a perfectly straight line.
